How To Create Your Own Text Tone

How to make custom text tone?

I was able to make a custom ringtone(basically the way you go into iTunes, shorten the song, create a copy, then drag it into tones), but I can't figure out how to use it as a text tone/use a custom text tone.

I want the same text tone for every notification.

Problem has been solved already, but here's the process I use every time I want a new ringtone. What I've always done is as follows, and works every time with high quality results:

  1. Drag a music file (MP3, AIFF, etc.) out of iTunes to your desktop.

  2. Drag that music file into QuickTime (version 10 in this example).

  3. Press command-T on a Mac, or under the "Edit" menu, choose "Trim...".

  4. Drag the edges of the yellow box to your desired section of the file. It must be less than 40 seconds for a normal ringtone, less than 30 seconds for a text tone.

  5. Click "Trim".

  6. Go to the "File" menu, choose "Export", and "Audio Only...".

  7. Save as whatever name you want, make sure its extension is ".m4a".

  8. Rename the saved file to ".m4r" and confirm changes when prompted.

  9. Drag into iTunes "Tones" section.

  10. Sync your phone and use that shit.

and if you want to get extra fancy, import into audacity (or probably garage band would work) and you can trim it down to the beat or millisecond, and add fade in/fade out.

Actually, you can command click on the song in iTunes, go to get info, and shorten it there, then command click on the file and create a copy, then go back to the original and undo the shortening. Drag the copy to the desktop, change the name, then drag it back in. No need to use QuickTime

It has to be less than 30s. Chance the file extension from m4a to m4r and reimport it.

Mine was 32 seconds haha, that explains it, thanks!

Do the same thing you did to make a ringtone. If you do it right, it'll appear in the 'Tones' section of iTunes which you can sync with your phone. Then make it your default text tone.

You can use GarageBand to easily create tones on an iOS device. You just have to trim the audio, save the song, and export it as a ringtone.

Use the Mac App called Ringer. It imports tracks from iTunes and then puts the converted and clipped song back into iTunes as a tone. It's easy.
